Cinnamon Bun Smoothie

With the flavours of cinnamon and vanilla and the heartiness of oats and bananas, this smoothie really does taste like a cinnamon bun!

When I was little, my parents would take my brother and I on weekend outings to the local airport to watch the planes. It was a classic small town airport – back then, the airport didn’t have many big planes, but it had small and charter planes, and everyone in the airport was friendly and knew everyone else. There was also an airport cafe.

The cafe was in the flight school building, right on the runway beside the control tower, and probably hadn’t changed since it was built in the 50s. The cafe was nothing remarkable, with white walls and basic tables and chairs, but it had big windows that gave the best view of the runway. They also served amazing sticky cinnamon buns.

Everyday Green Smoothie

I drink this green smoothie every day!

It’s hard to eat your greens in the winter! I love eating salads in the spring and summer, but as soon as winter hits, I am all about the warm cozy food and seriously shun my greens.

But no shunning greens any longer! As soon as I was gifted a Vitamix blender as a wedding present, I became a convert on the green smoothie train. Previously I’d owned a $19.99 blender, which couldn’t puree anything, even soft spinach leaves. Not that you need a Vitamix to make a smoothie – a regular old blender will do – maybe just don’t buy the cheapest blender in the store. 😉

(If you’re on the edge about buying a Vitamix – DO IT. All of your smoothest smoothie dreams will come true. I was on the fence about buying one for YEARS because they’re so expensive, and the first time I used it to make homemade peanut butter in 1 minute flat, I was SOLD. And then the first time I obliterated ice cubes into a frozen margarita, I was SOLD AGAIN. That thing is POWERFUL.)

Cinnamon Pear Overnight Oats

Pears go underrated during a season that's so focused on apples. Their creaminess and crrunch pair with a generous sprinkle of cinnamon alongside healthy oats and chia seeds.

There’s no mistaking that Fall has arrived here on the Pacific Northwest. I went for my first morning run since we’ve been back from our honeymoon and I had to dig out my long-sleeve running shirt and my warm headband. There was a bite in the air, and a few crinkled leaves crunched under my feet. People who were walking their dogs were wearing scarves and jackets.

The one thing I love about Fall is that it’s a time of renewal. While I love the spontaneity of summer, I appreciate the feeling of a fresh start, the routines of back to school, the excitement of the impending holidays, and the darkening nights with nothing to do except get cozy by the fireplace with a glass of red wine.

Tropical Overnight Oats

I could eat mangoes every day forever - I think they are the ultimate tropical flavour. | breakfast for dinner

Overnight Oats, guys. I just can’t.get.enough.

Remember how I used to turn up my nose at Overnight Oats and how my world was changed back in February? Yep, I have only been eating Overnight Oats for four months, and I am completely obsessed.

Infatuated.

Smitten.

In love.

In fact, Overnight Oats are now my favourite workday breakfast. They are just so easy and portable! I’ve been waking up early to run a few days a week lately (gotta get fit for my wedding in August!!), and Overnight Oats completely save me – I can jump in the shower, grab my Oats, and run out the door to work.

No-Bake Coconut Energy Bites

No-Bake Coconut Energy Bites make a quick breakfast to-go or a filling afternoon snack.

It’s no secret that I eat a Lara Bar pretty much every day. I love them for their simple, whole ingredients, but I don’t love the pricetag! My favourite flavour is the Coconut Lara Bar – so I knew I wanted to take that inspiration and make my own coconut flavoured snack bites! These No-Bake Coconut Energy Bites are inspired by Lara Bars, but are in no way supposed to be a copycat recipe.

I’ve paired coconut, dates, and cashews (the three sole ingredients in Coconut Lara Bars) with a few other nuts for a fuller flavour, and also added in my favourite spices – cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. The result is a sweetly spiced coconut energy ball – they make a great breakfast to-go and also a wonderful afternoon snack.

6 ingredients, one bowl, no bake Peanut Butter Oatmeal Granola Bars! So simple!

Dudes. These. are. the. best.

The best as in I may have already inhaled 3 granola bars today. And one before I got around to snapping the photos (see how there’s only 5 bars in the pictures?!)

I have a granola bar addiction. I have granola bars stashed in my desk drawer at work, in our cupboard at home, and often I’ll throw one in my purse. You never know when hunger might strike – and since I turn into the grouch when I’m hungry, they’ve saved me on many occasions!
