Cinnamon Bun Smoothie

With the flavours of cinnamon and vanilla and the heartiness of oats and bananas, this smoothie really does taste like a cinnamon bun!

When I was little, my parents would take my brother and I on weekend outings to the local airport to watch the planes. It was a classic small town airport – back then, the airport didn’t have many big planes, but it hadΒ small and charter planes, and everyone inΒ the airport was friendly and knew everyone else. There was also an airport cafe.

The cafe was in the flight school building, right on the runway beside the control tower, and probably hadn’t changed since it was built in the 50s. The cafe was nothing remarkable, with white walls and basic tables and chairs, but it had big windows that gave the best view of the runway.

They also served amazing sticky cinnamon buns.

With the flavours of cinnamon and vanilla and the heartiness of oats and bananas, this smoothie really does taste like a cinnamon bun!

And that was ourΒ ritual: watching planes take off and land while munching cinnamon buns.

To this day, I’m still fascinated with watching planes (though actually flying in one is another story!) and to this day, I still love cinnamon buns.

Funny how we all have these snapshot childhood memories so linked with food.

Eating a cinnamon bun for breakfast is a real treat for me, so when I’m craving that cinnamony flavour, I like to make this Cinnamon Bun Smoothie.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, plus additional for garnish
  • 1 banana
  • 4 ice cubes
Instructions
  1. Put all ingredients in a blender and blend on high until smooth. Pour into a glass, sprinkle with additional cinnamon, and enjoy!
Recipe Notes

Recipe makes 1 large smoothie or 2 small.

    Sounds like such a lovely ritual – I know we’d do the same whenever dad was coming home from one of his business trips, but minus the cinnamon buns! Love that you turned this into a smoothie recipe, can’t wait to taste a sip πŸ˜‰
